I began diving in May 2000 completing open water certification in Cozumel, Mexico after being introduced to scuba diving by my daughter who was studying Marine Biology in Florida. She said, “Dad, you ought to try this, I think you may like it!” Thus began my plunge into diving!

I found diving to be a relaxing, awe inspiring, focused, concentration of motor and mental skills that was an addiction. I loved all the mechanics and apparatus, it is truly equipment intensive! I enjoyed the challenges of understanding human physiology, the physics and chemical interactions of the gases, the experimentally derived predictive models and the constant challenge of learning. It is a sport that blends the mental, motor and mechanical skills into a challenge to constantly improve your performance. That is just me, but the real bonus is the environments you get to visit!

You can experience worlds unseen by the masses, whether it be a long lost shipwreck in the Great Lakes, an octopus slithering along in the middle of the Caribbean night or the glorious color of a wide variety of species plying a living coral reef! It is a sport as varied as the people who enjoy it and the people who make it all the more enjoyable. There is something for everyone to learn, experience and build a camaraderie with in this sport.

I have challenged myself with all the available advanced courses including the Dive Control Specialist program. I have also reached for the pinnacle of the Technical diving regimen working towards the ultimate goal of Tri-Mix certification. Each course and each program is another accomplishment in improving skills and performance as well as understanding and knowledge.

So now after over 4 years and better than 250 dives what is my advice to someone interested in scuba diving?
"You ought to try this, I think you may like it!”

Let’s go diving!!!
