*March 27, 2008: Large shipment of soft and hard weights in this week. Knew knife line in stock. You will have to see these beauties to believe them. You can never have enough knives and sharp enough to shave with out of the box.

Rescue team is selling off their surface supply equipment, control center, 105' of hose, plus communications for only $2500.00, was $5000.00. They also are selling off some buddy phones, for $250.00 each (2 systems with surface head set as well). The money is going to be used to outfit another rescue diver. So, if you need or know of a need, the units are on consignment at the store.

Boat is going back in the water as soon as the air warms up a little. Bottom paint still need to go on and canvas and glass still needs to be fitted. New top looks great.

Have a super diving day, Chuck

*March 16, 2008: Where is the party? Bonaire Post Party is at the Butler at 6 PM. All are welcome to drop in and party.

Monster diving party in Cozumel May 13-20, 2008, yes you are invited. If you want to go to Cozumel it is only $1299.95 pp/do. Payments are due now!

PhD Peter wanted sonar on the ROV and it is here and worked flawlessly in the pool last night. Hopefully it will be worth more than its weight in gold.
The additions made to the ROV were needed but astronomical in cost. The back of the boat will be an array of computers this summer. One computer for the ROV camera, another for the ROV sonar and still another for the sidescan sonar. The dive boat is going to look like the helm of the Starship Enterprise. New blackout canvas is being custom made to darken operation areas to aid viewing of the computer screens. The boat will be back in the water as soon as I can put a coat of bottom paint on her. What is first on the list to investigate? I am probably going to go after the 33' or so boat that we found between Saugatuck and Chicago last summer. The fuselage of an unknown plane off the South Haven that we located last summer (I just heard today that when it went down in the 50's and was rumored to have been shot down by a UFO), would be #2 on my list. #3 the wreck that Kamila found off of South Haven last season and #4 the wreck north of Holland the we initially came across scanning back from the Coast Guard Festival. There is not enough summer to investigate them all. However, with the new ROV sonar, maybe a couple can be explored. Over $10K of work was done on the vehicle. We do appreciate your support, every dollar contributed helps greatly.

Have a super diving day, Chuck

*March 14, 2008: Treasure hunt goes wild! It was another fabulous diving day at Ocean Sands Scuba, Sunday. Treasure hunters were out in all their glory finding treasure at every wave of their magical metal detectors. The winner of the treasure hunt found, 2 Nextels, a jeweled butterfly, a new pair of sunglasses (stylin), new boat brush, ashtray with cigarette lighter, bloody Mary glass, and a dozen beer cans, (they really make your metal detector sing and are a nuisance). It was a super diving day and plenty of treasure for all. This was our first day back at it and need a little tuning up before we start finding the diamonds and necklaces again.

Stop the presses! The ROV has just arrived from her update and refurbishing. The new sonar package has been integrated into the ROV. This will allow us to find targets 100 meters away from the anchor point and zero in for the kill. While she was away, she was flashed with the latest software, had her lights, manipulator arm and compass rebuilt. She is now ready to begin her sea trials. We need the wreck hunting team to get together to put the little lady through her paces. It should be an interesting experience.

Have a super diving day, Chuck

*March 8, 2008: The most exciting Michigan summer ever is coming to a lake near you!

This Sunday: Monster blow out treasure hunt in Saugatuck. We have been stymied in our attempts to dive the Kalamazoo River all season. Vast treasures await the bold and beautiful that dare to go where only a few treasure hunters have the guts to go.

Where: Bonaire Post Party will be at the world famous Butler Restaurant in Saugatuck.
When: March 19 at 6 PM
Who is invited: You and all your guests. Videos and photos of the best filmmakers and photographers in the world will be showing their latest masterpieces, while you enjoy the Butler's fine cuisine.

New AED is in the house. AED training will now be part of our CPR & First Aid Courses. CPR is just maintenance, AED is the next evolution in life saving.

New Sonar is in the air as we speak. It should be arriving any day. The new sonar is an integral part of the ROV. This will allow the user to acquire targets up to 300' away. Why is this so exciting? It will allow us to find objects in zero vis at depths up to 500' (need longer umbilical for greater depths). The problem that we encountered last year with the ROV was that we were limited by field of vision (also upgraded camera and manipulator arm while ROV was in for sonar upgrade). Vis was low, ten feet on a great day. If you did not land right on top of the wreck, the wreck might be lost to the ROV, or even if found lost within a few feet due to low vis. Now I am very hopeful that we have improved the capability of our ROV by 1000 %. It will allow us to explore smaller harder to hook ship wrecks by just getting close with an anchor drop and then let the ROV find its way with onboard sonar in the last 100' or so. Remember that small approximately 33' or so boat that we found at the end of last season in slightly less than 400' of water that I thought would never be able to identify and explore? Well guess what? We now have the capability to explore and even raise her from her grave. What will we find? Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of The Striking Viking, The Beauty Beast, PhD Peter, and all of Chuck's Angles. Pray for some good weather and we will have the adventure of a lifetime. Like to jump aboard? Just drop me a line and we will put you on the list. These site are all top secret and will never be revealed to the general public.

Have a super diving day, Chuck

*March 7, 2008: Get that scuba equipment dusted off and start thinking about going diving.

Lets get you back into the spirit with some advanced classes. Your beginner class only taught you how to go up and down in the water column. There is so much more for you to learn about diving and you will be a better diver for it. I till all the classes I could just to make myself a better diver. A good diver is always learning.

Advanced Classes are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, and very flexible for you. Click to see the advanced schedule.

If you haven't dived in six months, then let me do a refresher class for you. It is only $35.00 to keep you safe. Diving is equipment intensive, and is very safe, however when safety procedures are not followed (due to poor skills & equipment) it can be very dangerous. This class is very easy-going and not intimidating at all. Re-learning your diving skills will make for an enjoyable experience on your vacation. My students always have a great time getting back into the water. We just have a lot of fun.

Enhance those diving skills and take the next step in being a more knowledgeable and safer diver.

Remember Cozumel and other trips.

See you soon, Kamila
